TCAD is a unique public/private partnership funded and governed by representatives from virtually all sectors of the local economy.
To achieve our mission, we provide a variety of services to both the public and private sectors.
Impressive Return on Investment In the last 10 years TCAD projects have resulted in:- 1,700 new jobs created (the average non-management wage for the new jobs created exceeds $17/hour)
- $145 million of new investment in facilities and equipment
- 1.4 million sq. ft. of facilities built or renovated
- $337 million of tax exempt bonds issued for local not-for-profit institutions
TCAD takes a leadership role and partners with other agencies to launch new initiatives.

A progressive strategy
TCAD is also responsible for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy for the community.
- TCAD facilitates the creation of high paying jobs for local residents with good benefits and room for advancement.

- TCAD directs scarce incentives to businesses that are committed to Tompkins County and are here for sound strategic reasons.

A sustainable funding strategy
- 1964 - TCAD is founded with financial support from local businesses, County government and Cornell University.
- 1985 - TCAD launches its first 3-year membership campaign and hires first full-time staff.
- 1990 - TCAD activity begins to generate fee-based revenue.
- 2005 - TCAD implements new funding model based on balanced revenues from membership, government & fees.
- Fall 2005 - 3 year membership campaign is launched.
